because developers only tell the truth, right?

I don't know why anyone is defending Dead Space 3.
1 and 2 are okay games, but people seem to treat them like the pinnacle of survival horror.
They're substandard third person shooters with jump scares, and this one has just stopped giving a shit and now desperately wants the CoD audience.
I hope this isn't what they meant when they told players to keep their saves. I'm going to pick up DS3 eventually, but I hope they have more plans in mind for my Mass Effect saves.
Oh no Max Payne is fat this time and not and New York and Agent 47 can go into slow mo oh now everything is ruineDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
but Absolution was actually awful, and MP3 was a horrendously unfitting Max Payne game (but a great shooter)
unpopular opinions ahoy
Universal ammo isn't in the game.
Its in the fucking demo.
Of course its in the game, the Devs lied to make try and keep the hate down and let people forget and Dead Space 3 is nothing more than a cheap money grab that is better with kinect.
Dead Space 3 is going to be shit with horrible changes and straight up action with nothing scary, dont know how people can defend Dead Space 3 anymore.
I hope the game doesnt get enough sales to please EA because I really dont want to see the abomination that would be Dead Space 4.
People tried defending RE5 which is the same shit thats going on with Dead Space 3 and it turned out to be shit, people then defended 6 and it turned out worse.
Then you have people trying to defend changes as if changes are always a good thing.
Its going to be shit and its better with kinect.

Wipe up your salty tears, your beloved franchise is dead

You guys know Isaac can also only hold 2 weapons at a time
NOPE THIS SURE IS THE BEST GAME IN THE FRANCHISE ALRIGHT
you can only have two weapons now? jesus christ
you can only have two weapons now? jesus christ
yep, Isaac can only hold 2 weapons. In the demo we're give the Plasma cutter (which is still a tank tho) and an Assault rifle that shoots bullets.
Not plasma, just a flat out assault rifle.
And weapon building means you can staple two guns together, i.e, my Assault rifle could have a plasma cutter glued onto it.
LOL
and now desperately wants the CoD audience.
I hate how the "cod audience" has become the collective boogeyman of elitist PC gamers, the one true evil that is behind everything that is making games bad (that and "casuals")
it looks cool, i'll prob use it
[editline]22nd January 2013[/editline]
if it detects that i have mass effect 3. would it just search for save files?? or would you need both games on origin
I hate how the "cod audience" has become the collective boogeyman of elitist PC gamers, the one true evil that is behind everything that is making games bad (that and "casuals")
okay but CoD audience generally refers to kids who just wanna shoot shit and have fun, the bro-tastic gamers who play games just to shoot foreigners.
Seeing as how Dead Space has been dumbed down to just shooting things and any atmosphere is gone now, I think it's safe to assume this one is being marketed to the CoD audience a little more?
Mass Effect certainly was, I mean hell, they fucking did a crosspromo with battlefield on that one
it's what EA does
I hate how the "cod audience" has become the collective boogeyman of elitist PC gamers, the one true evil that is behind everything that is making games bad (that and "casuals")
It sort of is.
Its the same, soulless, dumb, action shooters that play it extremely safe but then sell better than any other game year after year after year.
Publishers and companies see this like EA, like they see that the games are dumb and dont get too complex so any 11 year old can find it accessible and easy, so then they try and copy it because that must mean the game will sell well right?
Well sadly it usually does because then those companies advertise the fuck out of the games, focus on the action and shooting because action+shooting=Sales.
I mean when a company like EA has the means to force a game to be popular due to never ending advertisement then they might as well make the safest game possible instead of taking risks because they really dont need to, they can just pay for commercials and advertising all day long.
What's up with the sudden retardation in this thread? Especially you Sardonus, I mean it's like you haven't checked your facts in months.
There's no universal ammo, you get ammo based on weapon types. That mean weapons which fire plasma, such as plasma cutters and line guns, use the same ammo. Military weapons such as assault rifles (which have never fired plasma BTW) use the same ammo as other bullet based weapons.
You can carry 3 guns and can customise each weapon to how you see fit. You can have a sniper rifle with a flamethrower underbarrel if you want, an assault rifle with a linegun attachment. How is giving players more versatility a bad thing?
Also, what's wrong with the atmosphere? So far I've seen nothing unusual that would make it appeal more to "bro-tastic gamers who play games just to shoot foreigners". I mean it's not like the original Dead Space had wierd shit. There were no turret segments in Dead Space. There were no basketball minigames in Dead Space. There was no trench run where you had to dodge debris for no reason in Dead Space. It was a horror game with horror elements for real gamers. Totally not for the CoD kiddies.
okay but CoD audience generally refers to kids who just wanna shoot shit and have fun
"shoot shit and have fun" no long a legitimate excuse to buy a video game.
yes I'm sure an EA exec ran into Viscerals offices clutching Modern Warfare sales records and demanding that to capture this audience they very carefully begin adding more action based elements to the game and improving the controls. If they were turning Dead Space into a team based first person shooter with perks and killstreaks you might have a point. Otherwise it's the same "They are trying to appeal to x audience!" nonsense that lets you feel superior because of the video games you play.
FYI a huge portion of the people who play CoD, shockingly, buy other games, and you are winning no favors other than from elitist assholes by throwing them under the bus to try and make some sweeping point about gaming.
raidyr it seems anytime there's a gaming thread we end up having a duel, I'm hanging a photo of you above my bed or something and giving you the black spot
but it is obvious they're trying to make dead space appeal to a more action market
bigger emphasis on guns, notice how there's more Assault rifle /smg style weaponry than mining tool style guns, Co-op, cover shooting sequences and Necromorphs with assault rifles?
Honestly, reading this thread and all the people claiming it's "dumbed down" or that it's not Dead Space, it makes me wonder if any of you people have even played the first two games.

or they are adding new enemies, new ways to play with friends, and improving movement mechanics.
since when is improving the way the game controls appealing to a specific audience?

Bought the first one, loved it to death, I've probably played it 4 times. It's a fun little shooter with an interesting little plot and a cool twist at the end.
The second one improves the shooting a lot but the story makes a lot less sense and gets way too fight clubby (The last boss takes place in isaac's brain srsly) and removed the feel of isolation and being a lone by having Isaac meet people constantly.
Dead Space 3, looks like they're adding even more people for Isaac to chum around with, wide open well lit areas (The epitome of horror) and boring necro designs.
Pass.
A lot of people are basing the entire game on the goddamn intro. You know, the part that introduces new players to the characters, enemies and how to play.

Shortly later the same old environments return.
I'm willing to give this a shot, at like, 20$.
Not gonna pay 60$ for this.
Just gonna do what my brother and I did for RE5, get hammered, play co-op and joke around
That's what Dead Space seems to be these days

Didn't the original Dead Space have Isaac start the game with 2 people helping him out? He was hardly alone in that game. Hell he was more alone in Dead Space 2 when the only person who didn't want him dead was Ellie.
I take it you've never seen The Thing. You don't need dark, tight corridors to make something scary and Dead Space has never been a horror game.

The Thing is one of my favorite movies of all time, it's been clear Dead Space stole the monster designs from the start.
100% the snowy location is a direct reference to that.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's some level of Kurt Russel joke in there somewhere.
Anyway, I just meant the first one felt a lot more enclosed.
Yeah, people phoned Isaac up, but we rarely saw them. On a few occasions we did. Isaac spent most of the game alone with his thoughts (THE ONE OCCASION I THOUGHT A SILENT PROTAG WAS AN IMPROVEMENT)
Isaac as a voiced protag doesn't add much for me. He doesn't really have too much personality besides badass and stomping on things.
You took 'badass' from his portrayal in Dead Space 2? The guy who almost flipped his shit and killed himself multiple times throughout the game? The guy who willingly places himself in situations that will likely kill him and then waits for death? Did you pay attention? Basically everything he does in DS2 is him asking for help, he tries to be badass at one point at the start when a ton of necromorphs show up, he then immediately switches gear and asks Daina for help.
Also the devs have openly said they were inspired by The Thing.

yeah he was schizo and kept hallucinating his dead girlfriend but at the same time he was a straight up badass
Isaac is basically Master Chief with a different job
fuckin' up train cars and shit
Because he totally wasn't that in the first game, where he single handedlykilled the giant necromorph at the end. Or when he killed hundreds of necromorphs on the Ishimura. Or when he made a bomb to make a hole in a steel barrier despite having cutting tools in his arsenal.
Isaac was more of an engineer and more of a person in Dead Space 2. In DS1 he was just a silent killing machine.
Gordon freeman is a silent character, everyone raves about him being the greatest video game character ever
sue me but I liked Isaac a lot more when I was creating how he felt in each scene

You know what comes with those enviroments?
Fucking cinematic close ups of new necromorphs and spooktacular QTEs.
Probably through space with generic red mines that make no sense instead of different looking debris.
Having good enviroments dont mean much when you fuck up the other shit.
Also Isaac having a voice is dumb because its so fucking generic and it makes no sense that hes just magically talking now.
Its like if Valve gave Gordon the most generic voice.
Imagine Gordon trading 1 liners with Alyx and Kliener.
man they could have handled snow so much better
imagine night time snow
with poor lights
and somewhat of an open map
fuck that'd be spooky
And necros that crawl underneath the snow and attack you from the behind while popping out of the snow.

That's not a good character, that's just you projecting your own emotions, or empathetic emotions you think he should feel. You're criticising Isaac for not being a character you liked but praising him in Dead Space where he arguably wasn't even a character at all.

i honestly liked MP3/Hitman absolution, but i just wanted a fucking straight up sequel; much like what i want (but wont get) with dead space 3
