a lot of people still use x86 operating systems for better compatibility with older software
some games that people still religiously play simply won't work on x64 operating systems
i'm still in the "x86 operating system" camp because of that, and i don't have the money for an x64 version of Windows 7
irrational by an technlogical standpoint, but i still love my old games
i'll probably do an dual-boot once i get an x64 OEM disc
there are always ways
what games do you play that won't work on 64 bit? Obscure games from your childhood I presume?
I tried that, a lot of the games lagged, and some of the 3D ones were almost unplayable because the Meshes would start spazzing out across the screen. To me atleast, it's a lot more stable to have the actual OS running it so Dual Boot was the easiest solution
what vm? The only viable VM for games is VMWare Player (it's free as opposed to other VMWare products)
The MS one (Virtual PC) has no 3D graphics support, and the Oracle one (Virtual Box) is not optimized at all for older Windows OS's and just downright sucks at running them.
VMWare runs amazingly well, but you have to manually download your sound drivers :/
Why doesent it support 128Bit? wow EA sucks!
I didn't realize Metro 2033 was so graphics intensive until I got my new desktop recently and BF3 runs better maxed than Metro. :v:
Metro is just poorly coded.

Not at all. Metro has some of the best lighting I've ever seen in a video game. Plus with the tessellation the detail on models is top notch. The game actually runs quite well when you turn off anti aliasing and tessellation, but you also lose significant visual quality.

It looks good but its way to intensive for what it is. BF3 should be a role model for optimization when it comes to GPU intensive games.
x64 is useless as hell if you don't have more than 4gbs of ram.
Also I am still using win xp sp3 32 bit, come at me facepunch.

if all you do is play solitaire I guess

pfft BF3, was a pile of steaming shit in terms of how it ran

If a 6870 can run BF3 on high with HBAO/FXAA with 60-70FPS, its optimized as hell.
I just love how he more or less says not to get Windows 8.

On very high it has sub-surface scattering
Why, Metro. Why did you think we needed this

I play on high/ultra with 40+ fps with a 6850. Yeah. It's pretty optimized.

Well, I'll give VMWare another try I suppose, after all its free. Plus, I have my sound drivers backed up so that shouldn't be a problem
You have no excuse not to upgrade to 64-bit.
Yeah, it's called lack of funds, moron. It's not like I have money to blow on upgrading my computer, I've got other things that need to be taken care of first.

If you've got Windows Vista or Windows 7 you can use the same code for 64bits and 32bits, you've got Windows Vista (According to facepunch), just download a Windows Vista 64bit disk with the version you have (Probably home premium) and you can install it without a problem.
(Yes, downloading the ISOs is legal if you own a legit Windows license).

Downloading the ISOs is legal no matter what you have anyway. MS offer them on their site in some circumstances.
But I don't think the 32/64-Bit keys are interchangeable. They should be locked to the appropriate version if I recall.

There are no 32/64bits keys, just Home Premium, Proffessional, etc.
I've installed different bit versions with the same key without problems.

Huh. Did not know that. Good for future reference too.
Terrible port or did they really revamp the PC version? Console version doesn't require 16 GB.
Neither does the PC version.

It will recognize up to 16, but it certainly doesn't need all 16.

Now I feel stupid. My bad, guys. Off to download 64-bit Vista now.

If you have actual 3d content then the game generally isn't old enough to warrant a boot to XP to be honest. The only cases were I ran into problem from memory were games that had a 16 bit installer. The game itself could potentially run fine, but the installer didn't
At what resolution?
1080p
Jesus Christ, what did they do when they were making that game?
you know, i bet making games an absurd filesize is actually a good way to combat piracy. think about it, who the fuck is going to want to literally spend a week downloading a game?
