Microsoft VP: 'play the games, not the resolution'

It will only be a few years until WiiU's graphics will be outdated.

And I must admit, when I buy a Nintendo product the thing I'm really looking for is high graphical fidelity.
If technology is going to keep advancing, this resolution debate is an important one. Sure, the games may still look great, but power compared with the PS4 is what makes or breaks sales.

is it nintendogs
"You look at high-end PC games right now. If you were just looking at screen resolution and framerate, you'd be a PC gamer. Because you can spend $800 on a video card and put it in. I've built those rigs. I can play those games. And I understand that. But that doesn't mean the best games are there. It doesn't mean it's the best all-in-one experience."
that last paragraph really got me
Keep working on that damage control, Microsoft. They've definitely got some good games coming but let's not deny that someone dropped the ball here. Like it or not, when the general public find out their competitor is getting more power for less cost (or Microsoft's worst nightmare of PS4 getting the better version of multiplat games), that's a rough place to be in.
All that in mind, the fact that Infinity Ward couldn't get Ghosts running at 1080p 60fps on a next-gen console is an embarrassment. There's literally nothing about Call of Duty that warrants that kind of lousy performance.
The best part is last launch go round, this same gentleman was calling out the other two platforms on their lack of graphics prowess and the fact 1080p titles on them would be scaled and weren't "true".
This is like if the VP of Ford said "Drive the car, not the engine." Fuck off MS.
somebody confirm they didnt fuck up the numbers in that post
seriously?!
Just going to assume that you're not familiar with how much devs will lower resolution to get their game running correctly :v:
Here's the list for PS3 and Xbox 360 games: http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=46241
It won't just blow over. Upscaling 720 to 1080 TVs looks ugly. Everything else is going to 1080. The difference will be more apparent
Didn't Reggie say "play the games" a few months ago?
Funny how the Wii U runs at 1080p natively.
I can't fucking stand low resolutions unless a game was designed to run in them, like pixel art games like Doom or Daggerfall.
A modern game run in low resolution is really fucking distracting, and the only thing having a lower resolution is going to do is make me feel like I'm "playing the resolution" since the only way I don't notice it is if it's in a high resolution.

Are you shitting me? PC is the ONLY all-in-one experience. Everything else doesn't even come close. And it doesn't take an $800 card to look better than an xbone. Even a $150 card will beat it.
Honestly, all this talk from Microsoft about "the graphics don't matter, play the games" sounds exactly like what Nintendo said with the Wii, and everyone was shitting on them for it (including Microsoft). Look who has to play the bitch card now? All this while I'm playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate at 1080P on my Wii U. GG Microsoft.
It's 2013, I really don't understand why the Xbone can't blow games out of the water at 1080p, especially since we have been able to do that since last gen.
I'm just loving the part in the article when Micro$oft suggested that PC gamers only look at resolution and framerate, we spend $800 on a graphics card and that the fact that PC is better in every way is ok because the Xbone has better games.
While I do agree that people focus far too heavily on raw numbers when gaming, this is 2013. Game consoles should run their games at 1080P. End of discussion. Everything else is 1080P. PC games have been there for almost a decade now. 1080P TVs are so commonplace even my broke ass has one.
If your next-gen console can't do 1080P games reliably it isn't next-gen, now is it?

To be fair I have bumped into many PC gamers that decide if a game is good or bad solely on how many levels of anti-aliasing they can run while the res is set to 1920x1080. That PC gamer does, sadly, exist, and they're very annoying to deal with.
See, that's how you know he doesn't know jack shit about PC gaming, i can spend 800 dollars on an entire rig or a gaming laptop that'll still vastly outpreform the Xbone. Hell, even Infinity Ward and their purposely shitty PC ports look better on PC than their native console.
Move over EA, Microsoft and Infinity Ward are moving in on your turf.

But the Wii U runs most games at less than 1080p and monster hunter 3u looks like a ps2 game

I mean christ, the textures on that sword. I mean obviously the graphics aren't what counts the most and monster hunter is a pretty neat game but the graphics are not worth bragging about

Isn't that just a upgraded port of a Wii game anyway?
