• The Elder Scrolls Online would be a 'lesser game' if free-to-play, Bethesda argues
it truly isn't. i doubt i would play it even if it was F2P.
The beta was certainly free, and an hour after I started playing, I promptly exited and uninstalled it.
In all fairness, games do have to make a lot of concessions to maintain a free to play model and I can see why they wouldn't want to launch a licensed MMO like ESO for free. That said, why this defends the games archaic subscription model instead of a far more sensible pay once with microtransactions to fuel further development is a mystery. Either that model just isn't working for Guild Wars 2 or MMO devs are really cocky. Probably both.
The beta was certainly free, and an hour after I started playing, I promptly exited and uninstalled it.
same. i got into it for like ten minutes, then never touched it again. the issues is that whenever i play it, it feels like i'm playing a cheap tes knockoff, so what do i do? i go play skyrim instead of this joke.
Yes, Bethesda, it may be a lesser game, but people would actually play the sodding thing. Better a lesser game with players than a greater game that nobody plays.
Why don't they use the Guildwars model? Pay once. Free to play is gonna be the inevitable end of this whole thing.
This is going to be delicious when they fail.
as a fan of elder scrolls borderlining on religious zealot status, i don't think it's delicious at all. more of a heartbreaking disaster that might shaft my favourite series.
Ok, if this subscription based game have micro-transanction in it, I'm not buying.
Ok, if this subscription based game have micro-transanction in it, I'm not buying.
and a pre-order bonus AND a special edition in-game bonus. like a WHOLE RACE locked away. Fuck off Zenimax with your money sucking practices.
Why don't they use the Guildwars model? Pay once. Free to play is gonna be the inevitable end of this whole thing.
The fact that more games aren't using this model makes me wonder if it's just not very successful or if F2P is just really better.
So they're both wildly throwing out how much of a success it's going to be, while also bracing for impact upon it flopping by preemptively making excuses.

What are dinosaurs doing in the Morrowind Region?
Maybe "restricting the audience" means "no immature little shits in our game who can't mown some lawns and buy a subscription"?
Subscription fee didn't exactly save WoW from that crowd did it.
What are dinosaurs doing in the Morrowind Region?
I assume you mean the Clannfear? Because they're a summon available for sorcerers
