I still don't get how people can play FPSes on consoles. third person shooters I get, racing games I get, everything else I get, but not first person shooters
The wii is an exception , if you've played 'Prime 3 : corruption then you'll know what I'm on about.

Wii definitely has some decent FPSes, it was actually play stuff like Resident Evil and Metroid Prime, though you still had limited turning speed.
The wii is an exception , if you've played 'Prime 3 : corruption then you'll know what I'm on about.
the wii has a different sort of control scheme though and I'm not even able to figure out platformers on that one
Here is a point I would like to make to every single person who says "Most people can't afford a gaming PC" Lets look at these facts.
1. A console is usually 300-400 brand new
2. Most people have a computer.
3. A cheap computer would cost you 400.
Now I'm not saying a 400 dollar computer can play good games so bare with me.
If you didn't buy the computer AND the console you could put the money from console into building a better computer. 800 dollars will build you a pretty decent gaming computer if you don't buy pre-built. Not only this but you get something that can also do other tasks, Such as work related things (Excel, Photoshop, Word, Many others..) As well as a device that you can game with. When you buy a console and a computer separate you are just taking One good thing and splitting into two things that can end up costing more than just buying a decent gaming computer. ALSO with a gaming computer you can just update as needed, Say you need more RAM, just buy either another ram card or buy better ram cards. In this way it actually makes a gaming pc last longer and run far cheaper than a console by far.
Not only this but factor this in as well for xbox. You pay 50$ if you buy it bundled not month per month for a year on xbox as well as your ISP cost.
SO stop with the argument PC costs too much for average person because it DOES NOT.
Most of multimedia laptops are more powerful than consoles nowadays, that's to say how consoles are so slow to evolve.
When you know that laptops are a bit less powerful than desktops, you know something is seriously wrong for consoles.
my gaming PC cost me a grand total of $500 a year ago and it's just now starting to have troubles with the most demanding titles. I'd say most people can afford a gaming PC if they don't get a console as well.
I'm not even looking to upgrade the graphics card, it's still got another six months before it really starts having trouble with high-spec titles. the CPU is my only real bottleneck
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
and by troubles I mean I'm not playing everywhere at max settings, I have to knock something down to medium to match my refresh rate
I like the controller for racing games / arcade fighters / GTA
I like the mouse+KB for RTS / FPS / typing / you get the picture
Both pc's and consoles have their cons:
PC: Expensive but limitless in all directions
Console: Inexpensive but on a very, very short leash.
Unless you have money flying out of your ass they're pretty equal imo
The reason why consoles are cheaper than pcs is what I am going to try to explain in the next sentences in this post.
The xbox 360 has got 2004 "gaming pc" hardware. If you bought a gaming pc that was made in 2004 it would cost just as much or cheaper than the xbox 360. The problem for that gaming pc is that the games that are made for it are not as overkill optimized as they are for the xbox 360.
If halo reach was optimized just as much as it was for the xbox 360 for a 2004 gaming pc. There would be no performance differences.
the pc Wouldn't have costed 300 bucks though man
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
plus console games are coded and designed SPECIFICALLY to run on their console's hardware, pc games have to be compatible with a ton of different shit. So they cant min max as well
plus console games are coded and designed SPECIFICALLY to run on their console's hardware
But a lot of them still suffer from framerate issues.

I will tell you right now that your regular console player is not going to assemble their own computer :v:.
Not even a contest.
There was also that project Microsoft had with some game (if I'm not mistaken) that had in mind mixing console gamers with PC gamers online.
The result was a failure because PC players literally dominated the console players. Even with assists.
ontopic: another obvious research/headline done and posted. Lots of them coming up nowadays.
You don't see console gamers slinging shit about the PC community.

Wow, are you mad?
Besides that, to think it's delusional to have a much stronger preference for the keyboard + mouse over the gamepad is just sort of, really dumb. I feel twice as comfortable using the former and I can use it much more effectively. That's not a delusion nor a preference, that's something everyone feels when using a keyboard and mouse.
Uhhhhh....it had nothing to do with keyboards dude. You just used an over used Facepunch stereotype.

That was one of the halos, of course mouse/KB are going to blow clumsy mushroom sticks out of the water in an FPS, thats a no brainer.

That was pretty painful to watch.
I couldn't tell if that was a troll video or not. The guy seemed to get all the troll points yet was kind of ignorant.
wow. pcs versus consoles is a thing i care about. it is a subject which makes me feel feelings and now im going to type words about those feelings
PC's wouldn't have shot by if the fucking console wasn't using outdated shit the day it was released. 4 fucking years ago.
You took both the hook, line AND sinker.

I see his problem, he's never heard of desktops before.

I think consoles are still cheaper. Let me explain.
you said it yourself - most people already have a computer for basic tasks, regardless of whether they own a console or not. Yes, a $800 computer would play games much better than what a console ever can, but you talk like people deliberately plan on getting a weaker computer so they can get a console later on. People don't know that at the moment. Of course, if a person has neither a console or a computer, I would say get a gaming computer too, but most people don't find themselves at a situation like that.
second, I find it unfair that you're comparing today's computer prices to launch prices of consoles. $400? More like $200 for an Xbox, $300 for a PS3. I'm assuming you're talking about USD, by the way. If you want to talk about launch prices, that's fine, but a $600, or even a $800 computer back in '07 will struggle to run today's games smoothly, even on console-equivalent settings.
third, computer upgradability isn't as open as you make it out to be. Sure, you can upgrade some components easily enough, but stuff like CPU, GPU, or even RAM nowadays, especially over a span of 4-5 years, there's not much you can do to upgrade a computer that old without creating a bottleneck, or needing to replace another component due to incompatibility.
Yeah, I know Xbox Live costs $60 a year, and that adds up, so I say just go for a PS3 if you want to game and you can't go for a new computer, but why are you including "ISP costs" on top of that?

Except for 300 $ to 400 $ you can get a pc better than a 360 or a ps3.
Which can do more.

By the end of Number 4 I knew he was absolutely retarded. Also, number 2, he is bitching about system requirements, seriously? MW2's system reqs were so low that the typical console kiddie has a PC capable of playing that shit on the highest possible settings.
Except for 300 $ to 400 $ you can get a pc better than a 360 or a ps3.

really? Can you show me?
A $300 computer will not be able to play today's games, and as you get closer to $400 and maybe a bit over, you can get something that'll play games decently but keep in mind that that's more expensive than consoles, and you'll likely have a hard time trying to do upgrading
Why are there always at least 1-2 adamant console Apologetics on every PC Gamer/Enthusiast forum? I mean, what are you guys doing there? Like some guy in this very thread said he doesn't even play PC games, wtf are you doing on Facepunch if you're console only?
[editline]13th July 2011[/editline]
when i'm playing console games the last thing i'm thinking is: "my god this would be far better if i used keyboard keys to move and a block with a laser under it to look"
also completely ignores frets on fire
