I remember hearing a Strider in the woods once, shat my pants.
If I had a fucking gravity gun I'd attempt to use it.
I find myself trying to hit ctrl z while writing on paper.
Doesn't have to be games. I'll sometimes be reading a text and feel the urge to use ctrl+f to find what I want.
the people in the article are just being attention whores. I have this too, but i don't want to go out and start beating people up or start trying to find the knife melee button when someone is in my way. Hell, the worst i have isn't even game related. If i'm looking at a list, or if im trying to find a definition in a box with lots of words in it, if im trying to find a name on paper i get frustrated and then think "Oh wait i can just hit ctrl f!" then realize im using fucking paper.
Once I tried to light up a room by hitting F.
The only instance of this happening to me is during a nightmare when I was young, I desperately tried to find the escape key so I could quit :(
When I was small I used to imagined a swiss-army-style little spaceship that could spawn all kinds of weapons, Inspector Gadget style. I would imagine it... like part of a side-scroller. During bus trips when looking out of the window, the little spaceship would fly outside and would have to destroy all objects in its way in a certain way. Stopped doing it when I discovered lasers were OP. It looked kinda like this if you'll excuse the poor sketch:
once i was on a airport i saw some guys that were russians talking and i tough NO RUSSIAN!!!
I remember one time I was getting head off a girl and I fell asleep because I was drunk as shit and always pass out when I'm drunk and the first thing I wanted to do was to do a Prince of Persia time rewind. I'm always gutted when I sober up and realize you can't do it so I always end up missing out
Reminds me of a friend who went into his room, trod on a CD case, and he thought it was a claymore.
Reminds me of a friend who went into his room, trod on a CD case, and he thought it was a claymore.
I dunno standing on cd cases can hurt really bad.
The problem got worse when Call of Duty Modern Warfare came out, spent a total of 32 days playing it and lost touch with reality.
You think?
Something similar happened to me twice, yet it wasn't directly related to gaming. First thing that happened was me writing down some notes in school. While I was writing a word, I noticed I made a spelling mistake and expected the word to get a red underline, when I would take off the pen. Second thing that happened was me reading a text. I was searching for a specific information, so I wanted to press CTRL + F to search for related words. :v:
I never go outside without my health pots.
Have they ever heard of the Tetris effect?
Life would be awesome if it had auto and quicksaves.
This, this so hard.
I've been playing games since I was very, very young. I'm 20 now and I've never had any problem noticing the difference between reality and virtual. It may affect people differently but essentially I think it's stories made up to distract people from bigger things. Who wouldn't like to hit someone occasionally if they really get on their nerves, but they understand that it's in their games not something they realistically do. Ruth
I don't do that with video games but rather just basic computer usage stuff like wanting to copy and paste from notes and trying to ctrl+F to find something in a textbook.
Life would be awesome if it had auto and quicksaves.
"You cannot quickload while in prison"
One time I played HL2 all day long, And later at night I walked out of the house and my finger instinctively reached for the F (Flashlight) key on the keyboard.
When I am going to do something important, I always think that I need to save before I do so I can reload if I fail. Then I realise.
I don't do stuff like that, But I occasionally imagine how fucking awesome it would be to have a portal gun and all the stuff I could do with it... But I don't think that counts.
When I first rented (yes rented, rip blockbusters) Splitter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, I played it so much that my first instinct upon seeing lights on the ceiling was to shoot them out.
Others had tried to use a 'gravity gun' to pick up food.
Weird, I do the same sometimes. Difference is, it works for me...
When I was little my mom and I were lost in Salt Lake City and I said to her "Just push 'L' and bring up the map". She threatened to take away Zelda after that.
When I'm trying to reason somebody or get something out of them, I always imagine Deus Ex style options popping up in my head. Also, I often need to sneak around my house at night and end up doing this batman-esque crouch around the house.
I panic when I hear hissing. And always say "nom nom nom om nom" when I eat sandviches.
If I'm ever 'in the sack' (be it with my girlfriend or myself) I often end up accidentally thinking of the hot coffee mod from GTA:SA, mainly the pleasure bar.
Trying to use "Undo" when I fuck up writing something at school. Although that's more related to PC usage than game usage.
Because i don't have mental issues I know what is in real life and what only exists in games.
This has nothing to do with the ability to differ virtuality and reality. Our subconscious can't differ virtuality from reality, only our conscious can. Our subconscious adapts to the situations that games put you in and memorizes how you solve it's problems, so when a similar problem happens in real life the subconscious reminds you of how to solve it and for a split second you think of it until your conscious steps in and tells you than no, this can't be solved the same way.
