He's almost MCdickie level.
Say what you will about MCdickie, at least he went and released his games on time and took less than half a decade.
but phil is just doing it ironically guys that totally excuses him being a total fuckweasel to his audience and totally means that his uninspired badly designed indie game is exempt from all criticism because he was just doing it ironically lol so clever!!!
Fez isn't bad I dunno why everyone here says it is because literally everyone I know loved it lol and every gaming community outside of the hardcore PC gaming market loves it too
Phil fish is a dinkus though
Honestly this whole thing reminds me of the debate that sparked up a couple of years ago around shadow complex, questioning if you should or should not support a game, even if you think its good, if the money you give it supports a bigoted asshole (orson scott card - shadow complex was based on one of his works of fiction, and he happens to be a huge massive creationist bigot who funds anti-gay and bigoted associations). AKA the question if buying a game that supports a bigot is morally correct, even if you are only buying the game to support the creative work itself rather than the person behind it
It's less of a game and more of a push trough.
He's almost MCdickie level.
Except MDicks' games actually present a challenge other than platforming.
i must have played very different games from other people when i was younger if this is nostalgic/retro, none of my 8bit games looked like FEZ, they had actual effort put into them
Apparently he spent 2 years studying pixel art so that he could make the art in the game better than he originally intended.

Apparently.
$9.
I can spend $9 buying Surgeon Sim 2013.
In fact I did a few hours ago, great game. More worth the cash than this stale pile of garbage.
Also Phil, I got a call from Sergey Titov, HE'S BEING OUT SUCKED!
how can someone like him be so successful
how can someone like him be so successful
very bright and ambitious individuals have a tendency to be utter asshats a lot of the time.
Oh boy
Well Fez IS a #2 so he's not lying technically...
Didn't this guy spend like 10 years (exaggerating here) working on just the pixel art for this game
how can someone like him be so successful
Why not? He released (arguably) good game. To be fair I couldn't care less how the developer treats their audience as long as the game is good. EA can call me a fucking loser idiot all they want if they release a great game with no bullshit drm or anything like that.
Don't know about others, but I play games, not developers.
Am I the only one who understands his humour? He's basically copying Andy Kaufman :v:
Honestly, all joking aside I think he's harmless, and I don't see why you're all directing your hate cannons towards this guy who made 1 indie game. Surely there are more important developers to be getting all flustered about
Am I the only one who understands his humour? He's basically copying Andy Kaufman :v:
Wasn't Kaufmans humor mostly about setting himself up as being worse than what he really was? I don't see how he's copying that style by being a deliberate asshole and getting upset and whining to his twitter followers as soon as someone gives him criticism.
Seriously, when boards like /v/ exists you've got to learn to take criticism, no matter how undeserving you think it is. You can't expect everyone to love you always (especially if you're a pretentious douche).

That's kind of the thing. Phil should be a developer that no one should care about. Yet his shit game is praised as being a work of art when much, MUCH better devs/games should have received the popularity and awards he gets.
I'd be fine with him gaining these awards and getting all this recognition if he just wasn't such a fucking cunt.
Well Fez IS a #2 so he's not lying technically...
On the UK store its #19 :v:

He got successful via the hype. The game really isn't special at all, it's the reason Gearbox brought back Duke Nukem Forever because they knew people would buy the game purely based off the development time and hype.
It's kinda sad that you guys are so focused on hating this guy, that you've kept it on the first page for nearly 3 days now, while a genuinely good indie game like Don't Starve slipped through the cracks, ignored.

Don't Starve has been available on steam for a while now, though. It's only just now been "released".
But the question is, is he worse than Derek Smart?
very bright and ambitious individuals have a tendency to be utter asshats a lot of the time.
Except this doesn't showcase any particular ambition or brightness.
very bright and ambitious individuals have a tendency to be utter asshats a lot of the time.
Ambitious game developers don't waste their time making pixel platformers and whining.

for a one-man project, fez is ambitious.
for a one-man project, fez is ambitious.
He didn't do it all on his own. Not to mention if it weren't for him wanting to redo it all from scratch three times it would have been out in a quarter of the dev time.

It kind of is special, actually. No other game has really attempted to have the kind of huge, overarching, almost ARG type puzzle that isn't even immediately obvious when playing the game that FEZ has and that everyone is praising it for.
