It's a wee bit faster now. Still not good.
are they ever gonna add a way to set a custom status, like xfire does? that would be so damned useful, i really dont see why they havent added that in by now with how much theyve been working on improving the whole community aspect of steam for the last year or two
go to control pannel then internet options go to connections then LAN settings untick Automatically detect settings BOOM STEAM IS FASTER TL;DR: It's a windows problem
Also fixes slow download speeds with the Blizzard updater by the way.

So implementing it in steam itself shouldn't be difficult.
go to control panel then internet options go to connections then LAN settings untick Automatically detect settings BOOM STEAM IS FASTER TL;DR: It's a windows problem
Results: • Store pages load instantly • Community pages load instantly • Overlay turns on and off in a fraction of a second without ever crashing • Youtube videos in overlay aren't laggy as shit • Downloading stuff is around 50% faster Is Valve aware of this?
I assume not otherwise it'd probably advise you to do this as soon as you first start steam

steam overlay isn't a piece of shit when I'm using facebook either which is great
Oh wow, everything is fast now  Software developers can circumvent this by the way, so Valve could make Steam try without proxy first and if that fails ask the user if they want to turn the configuration on. (They could also request the proxy settings from the system once and then reuse them, but that wouldn't speed up the start up.) The problem is that Windows apparently checks the connection with a Microsoft server every time a program requests the proxy settings.
My only question is who the fuck at Microsoft decided it would be a good idea to make it try and auto detect every time something tries to connect out? It's an Internet connection. Unless you unplug it or change wireless networks, it's not going to fucking change. [editline]8th July 2013[/editline] Automatic when first connected to the Internet, then no more. That's the proper way to do it.
The idea is that you can plug a PC in or connect via WiFi to any network and you will be able to get out onto the internet no matter what. Its a good feature but its just horrendously slow.
Huh, seems like its still as slow as ever, if not, even more for me... Guess its the shitty computer.
I don't even know what was slow about Steam before. It seems just about the same. What part of Steam was slow for you?
Run them through a damn translator and match the words up then.
The problem is that some of the danish stuff is really oddly translated, and what made you think I didn't understand the language, it's just that shocker, most computers in a country gets sold with the language of that country.
Can the post somehow being made more popular? To reach other people, I don't know, by making a news in the Sensionalist Headlines thread? More people need to see this.
It's a pretty useful duct tape fix, but the client is awful either way.
