I don't think that's how it works. Steam seems to treat the Russian version as an entirely different game (it appears as Borderlands 2 RU in a steam games list). Plus it's entirely possible to have both the Russian version and the international version on the same account.

I thought it was fun but you don't really help your case by saying it was mostly RPG.
The total lack of story and impersonal "bounty board" fetch quests make all the RPG elements pretty weak. It was more of a "loot simulator" than anything.

Well obviously it's a form of DRM, but it's also because Russia is an area very infamous for pirating damn near everything.
Ironically, this is exactly the kind of shit that causes this in the first place.
It isn't really pirating if you pay for it - more like shopping around
large corporations love to globalise but when the customer does the same thing it's "immoral" and they get pissed
