The problem with beth haters is that they take the games way too seriously. Fallout and TES are the game equivalent of 50s B movies.
Sure, this leads to some silly game design choices and repetitive shit, but thank fuck we have mods to make up for it. That doesn't excuse bgs, it just saves them is all.

I much prefer random start. Just drops you in a bunch of random spots. You feel like you're really nothing. When I play with it with Frostfall and the other survival mods I also delete all my equipment.

there's one guy who instantly assumes that, if you defend the dark elf, you're in league with them and a thalmor spy, and is ready to go at it. always fun whooping his ass.

For some reason I love the sense of "JFC I'M ON A MOUNTAIN WITH NO GEAR HOW THE FUCK DO I SURVIVE GETTING TO THE NEAREST TOWN THERE'S SKELETON ARCHERS AND SHIT EVERYWHERE UP HERE"
It completely opens up your character background so you could do anything from amnesia to a hiking trip gone wrong to some of the shit they come up with at loverslab
I don't think I've started a game in Helgen in years.
