• Notch kills possible Oculus deal in light of impending Facebook acquisition

In my opinion, it all depends on how much control Facebook is going to have over Oculus. Having a group of people passionate about their product/passionate about gaming is way more preferable than having a company that is only interested in money control it. I'm glad that this happened after some competitors have started cropping up.
I spoke to Palmer on Facebook just to give him some congratulations, he said "This deal directly enables a lot of very, very good things. We have a lot of good news coming." So it sounds to me like there's going to be a lot of freedom with oculus.
I already read that, and that's fine. but still way too fast to make a decision like that. We don't even know how much control FB has in the company yet. All we got is an announcement. He says he doesn't want to work with FB or social, but there is no indication that he would have to. It still sounds entirely like he made the decision knee-jerk, then found ways to justify it.
The issue isn't that we know that Facebook will do something terrible with the Oculus Rift. The issue is trust. Notch doesn't trust Facebook, and he has valid reasons not to. Choosing not to work with a party you don't trust is a perfectly reasonable course of action.
Remember when Notch trusted PayPal? Yeahhh.
Notch actually makes a good point. Facebook isn't in the business of games nor should it be. Facebook isn't stable or trustworthy. Furthermore, it is disheartening that something grassroots became corporate.
Facebook is a company that sells data and makes money through advertising. Please argue with me how this is good news for any gamer? I thought we all agreed that Facebook is merely used because all your tech-illiterate friends don't know how to use a computer but can atleast login to Facebook and it's the new ~cool thing~ to do. Oculus is dead, just follow the news from now on.
What was the point of the deal if Minecraft already has got Rift support?
Isn't it up to Notch to decide who he wants to work and who he doesn't want to work with?
I don't get it, Facebook isn't any more evil than most tech companies. They're really open with the stuff they do, and most of the complaints about how "they're stealing our privacy!!" Are basically null because they offer plenty of privacy options if you don't want certain details about you being open to the internet (or just don't post those details in the first place) Honestly this acquisition seems like a great idea, if anyone could lend a massive hand to making VR available to the mass markets, it'd be Facebook. Anyone who says that the Rift is now ruined and it's going to degrade into shitty FarmVille games (which FYI they didn't even make) is a massive baby and completely discounts the massive talent that Facebook brings to the table

What I have an issue with his how quickly he decided to completely cancel the project.

Everyone gets mad about acquisition deals, they usually end up okay though. Disney-Marvel for example. DC-WB is nice too but I'm not fully okay with it because I'm sick of all the live action DC show deals going to that tween drama channel WB has

They act as if being in talks about a project means it's ok to comment about how it hasn't been started yet
