A friend gave me some models, not sure how to compile them with textures on

So, my friend gave me a few models of trees (very, very nice trees), and the file came in two parts- a .mdl file, and the .tga textures. is it possible for me to combine the textures into the .mdl, or are those always separate?

If .mdl is already including texture root, convert .tga into .vtf.
If not, decompile tree.mdl and apply the tga, then compile again. Now, that is the same tree.

Textures are not part of models in Source engine, so as dmlxo21 said, check if mdl already has texture paths set.

I made a mistake, i meant to say .obj
