A modern-day suburban house.

THERE ARE A TON OF IMAGES SO LET IT LOAD FOR A SEC.

…with one bedroom :v:

So I made a few houses, but people kept complaining that they had no insides.

…so this time I started inside out, and what do you know, here I am.

Orignally I was inspired by a part in Hard Rain from Left 4 Dead 2, and it was one of the houses in the very beginning, there’s a window from the living room to the kitchen. I saw it in a video, and for some reason it was something I wanted to make. And I did. And I improved upon it and around it, and it turned into this.

tl;dr? saw a window and wanted to make it, therefore I present to you guys:

**THE UNNAMED SUBURBAN HOUSE. **

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20045.jpg

Hallway, right as you come in through the front.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20047.jpg

The kitchen.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20048.jpg

Kitchen again.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20049.jpg

Appliances, including the L4d Sink, and stove, and fridge, and the CSS microwave and a dishwasher I made the texture for. As in, it’s just a brush with a dishwasher face. I’ll include that.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20050.jpg

Small island…for…eating? Or whatever you need an island for in Gmod or whatever.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20051.jpg

Dining room connects right to the kitchen.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20053.jpg

Living area with a ton of empty space, I’m not sure what to put there.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20054.jpg

Spotlighting empty space :U

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20055.jpg

Entertainment center. And suprisingly, the l4d DVD player & VCR work in Episode Two. I’m happy with that.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20057.jpg

…the only shot of the bedroom. Excuse the gravity gun :v:

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20060.jpg

Basic floorplan.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20061.jpg

Dining room.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20062.jpg

Hallway, and the bathroom and front door at the end.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20064.jpg

Toilet from l4d, and a custom sink counter. The sink itself is from l4d but the counter I had to make from scratch, and it was a pain in the ass, holy crap.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20065.jpg

…overall bathroom

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20066.jpg

…a sauna. Don’t ask me how this is useful in a video game, just appreciate it.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20067.jpg

Horray for physbox paintings. Which, by the way, are textured from Gm_desertvilla, so kudos to Marvel for those textures. And the majority of the wall textures and a few others.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/house20068.jpg

…and the back deck. Uses CSS textures, a L4D picnic table and grill, and the railings are from Episode Two.

So that’s all I have for now. I was told to add a basement, so I’ll probably work on that next, using the basic shape I have here now. If you guys have any comments/critiques/suggestions, feel free to throw them at me, I’d appreciate knowing what I could work on. Oh, and What should I do with that empty space?

Also table and chair models are from here:
http://www.gaming-models.de/?p=model_show&id=155

Things left to do:

-Fix a few misaligned textures
-Credit everyone who…inadvertently helped
-Fix the glass inside the sliding door.
-Add upper cabinets in the kitchen.
-Replace the damn table in the bedroom with no Collision model
-What are NPC nodes? And I’m sure I need them, because whenever someone releases a new map it’s a big deal.

…also this is my first actual attempt at putting effort into “releasing” a map, so please tell me what you think.

Use AA next time. I always forget to turn it on myself.
It looks good.
Where did you get the fridge model from?

The fridge is from Left 4 Dead. And I don’t think I can turn on AA, because it’s grayed out in the options menu, and when I tried to run it through the console I crashed :v:

But thanks.

Either it’s me, or the host where the pictures are hosted shit itself.

…and that would be FileSmelt. It’s being a little weird to me, too.

NPC Nodes are invisible things that show the NPCs (The characters you can spawn in GMod) where to go in the map.

Ah, thanks. I’ll stick them in there. How far apart are they usually?

Also, I would change the floor tile texture in the Kitchen. It looks low resolution. But overall awesome!

Left 4 Dead content appears to have a lot of potential in RP maps.

I’ll make it a little smaller, and we’ll see where that goes. If it needs to be changed after that so be it.

Yeah, it’s actually quite nice, but I have yet to see it in very many maps.

Also hurr I added a ton of little details to the bedroom and kitchen.

Came out awesome :havlat:

(Other than the fact that my computer makes them look like utter shit in it’s “most powerful settings”)

Also, sorry the screenshots are 800x600 and such shitty quality, I have the compile & launch window set to windowed mode. And my computer is a 2003 piece of crap. If you guys want bigger screens just let me know and I’ll post some.

Yay for anti-aliasing. :wtc:

More updates tomorrow if I add a basement like I plan to.

BURN THE MAC!!!
Map is looking good so far…besides the Mac

Try adding a pool table to the living room, or a ping pong table.

Anywhere I could get a model? I have enough brushwork posing as props in there and I don’t wanna overload anything.

…have you ever used a Mac? :U

…Also you can go nuts with the ignite tool in Gmod if I ever release this.

And there’s a dell laptop in the bedroom so.

That.

This.

This.

Popular vote says burn the mac

Goddammit you guys.

Go find me some nice PC models that aren’t from PCMod or Cs_Office and I’ll replace them. :hurr: (That emoticon is so amazing.)

…anyhow… BASEMENT IS PRETTY MUCH DONE. Except for storage area/whatever.

Top two images are only fullbright because there are no lights in the storage part of the basement.

Again I apologize for the shitty quality screenshots, they’re as high as my computer will allow me to set them.

Edit: I just noticed a bunch of the recessed lights in the basement are floating. I’ll add that to my little “to-do” post-it.

stick a few in each room and make sure they all have a direct line of sight with each other in some way. you’re trying to create a “track” for npcs to direct themselves around on. you want them to be able to interact with the player wherever he is.

Can they “See” through props? (Such as doors?)

[img_thumb]http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/7970/house20097.jpg[/img_thumb]

Move the wood part on the side of the stairs, pretty sure they need to be waist height. (need to ask a few relatives to be sure)

http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/5836/watz.png

How’s that?
