basic units

I wanna use Hammer Editor to create a Garry’s Mod map based upon my house. Once I get the measurements of my house (in feet) how would I go converting the feet into the units used for Hammer?

Units are in inches.

Wrong. 16 units = one foot, but 9/10 times valve uses 128 or 256 for wall height, because it perfectly fits textures without need for scale.

Players have a scale of 1ft = 12 units

1 unit represents 1 inch

I’m pretty sure that one Hammer unit is one inch. But Valve does use somewhat unrealistic proportions every now and then. Usually I just follow regular guidelines, or test in-game what looks better.

108 = 6' 9" normal door height
48 = 3' 6" normal door width

whenever I try to make something to scale, it tends to look really wrong. So I’d say just make it so it looks right, but looks normal in hammer.

i just place an info_player_start and use that as a reference

Thank you. All great ideas. I’m gonna try them all (one method for discovering how long and wide I need to make the basic house, and another to see how tall to make the house)

One unit is .75 inches for geometry, 1 inch for people. Add in standard texture sizes for extra confusion.
