Best way to make rain?

What is the most effective way to make rain.
I don’t like func_precipitation.

In EP2:

info_particle_system + Rain_01 - particle effect (you can see it in particle demonstration - video, that is moving in youtube.)

If you are mapping in EP1-source. then you need to settle on precipitation.

That effect just looks weird in my map.

Fog.

Get rid of the smoke? or maybe make it darker?

It’s part of the effect.
I don’t really know how to use the particle editor.

Launch the game with -tools

Choose View then particle editor.

Load the file (you might have to extract it from the gcf.)

Choose the Initializers category, and for color random, make them darker.

When you place the particle_system - entity higher, the water’s ground collision - part appears.
I know that it sound weird but give a shot, and you will see.

The standard rain in func_precipitation looks bad, but have you checked out the precipitation particle rain? Looks much nicer.
