Compiling a model with too many vertices

I recently decompiled a vehicle and tried to recompile it, on compiling it errored with 70,000+ vertices. I am aware that Source only supports up to around 33,000 vertices so I was wondering how these models were compiled with 70,000. Is there a way to bypass the limit? As I don’t really want to decimate the model for quality reasons.

Try selecting all of the vertices and hitting weld, set to 0.01 or similar…
This will collapse all of the duplicated verts that are sometimes associated with SMDs.

Thank you Phanty, this helped a bit however did not remove enough vertices to compile, and if I set it higher to remove more, quality disappears and the wheels or whole model breaks.
