Custom sprites

Hey, I was wondering if maybe someone could help me with this issue:
I wanted to make my own light flare but it didn’t really work out that well.
Here’s the vmt I made which is probably wrong:

"Sprite"{
   "$spriteorientation" "vp_parallel"
   "$spriteorigin" "[ 0 0 0 ]"
   "$baseTexture" "mycustom/lightflare"
   "$additive" "1"
   "transparent" "1"
}

Anyone know what I need to do to get it right? Any bit of help is appreciated

Try saving it without transparency. i.e. a black background. And don’t save with the vtf plugin on photoshop. Take the additive and the transparent out of the vmt. In hammer set the render mode to world space glow.

If it has alpha, maybe $alphatest will work… it did for me.

Except $alphatest tells the material its either transparent or not. Like 1, or 0, not 1 to 0.

It looks like you are doing the transparency wrong in PS, you need to add an alpha channel in the “channels” tab and create an alpha mask. A greyscale image representing transparency, the whiter the more opaque (iirc?). Simply having the checker transparent background showing in PS isn’t enough.
