So i’m working on a map for an upcoming community, it’s basically just a simple lobby map in which players can fuck around with multiplayer youtube videos, and connect to other linked gamemode servers using custom brush based ents.
So far i only have the spawn area done, i’m looking to add a bunch of neat features to the map and make it a little more exciting to explore.
You spawn in the sky as a ragdoll and fall down into the cobblestone spawn area. Your screen fades in from white as you fall. When you land, you recover and get up (using some nifty camera movement code i wrote)
By that vendor cart i plan to have a greeter NPC. If you decide to try and commit suicide by jumping off into the void you will find that your screen fades into white and you end up dropping back into the spawn area mysteriously. From the spawn island you will have to cross the partially disintegrated mysterious hover bridge to reach the main “hub” which is not made yet. The bridge looks really cool ingame since each stone hovers up and down slowly (they are custom scripted ents, not props parented to moving brushes) and you need to watch your step when you jump on them.
I’m looking for more cool ideas for stuff that hasn’t been done before on maps like these. Criticism welcome too.
