And I’m currently working on an animated ball, but I just haven’t gotten around to making the VMT and animating the VTF.

It has too, plenty of people have changed what the ball looks like.
Couldn’t you just download one of those and look in the materials folder?
It’s a sprite. You’ll have to convert before editing. Should be easy though
