Easily Compiling Models

(Moderators please move this thread if it is in the “wrong place”, my apologies :))

So, you want to compile a model?
Now, some people go bad here,
or it takes to long,
or they use a method that requires Orange Box or EP1… cough cough
Yeah, this is for people who have GARRY’S MOD.
If you have Orange Box/EP1, then there is an application for that :slight_smile:

Run this in GIT Bash. It’s a free, worth-it app.

Steam Users go HERE-

Otherwise, you made it harder.
Fill this out and excecute it.

cd “<path-to-gmod-folder>/bin”
studiomdl.exe -nop4 -game “<path-to-gmod-folder>/garrysmod” “C:/<pathtocompilefolder>/<.qc file name>”

Here’s 123213% better solution:

Create a .bat file with either these contents:

:COMPILE

set studiomdl="C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/garrysmod/bin/studiomdl.exe" -game "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/garrysmod/garrysmod" -quiet -nox360 -nop4

echo Compiling...

%studiomdl% %1

echo Finished compiling!

PAUSE

goto COMPILE

or these



"C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/GarrysMod/bin/studiomdl.exe" -game "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/garrysmod/garrysmod/" -nop4 -nox360 %1
pause


The first variant will continuously recompile the model every time you press a button unless you close the window, the second one will simply compile the model you give it once.

Dag’n’drop the .qc onto either of those scripts, or do the “Open With…” and select the .bat script to be able to double click the .qc to compile it.

Simple an efficient.

You might want to correct the filesystem paths to the ones you have.
Add or remove the “-quiet” parameter to hide or show the compile log.
