extra polys and blocky

when i import a model into 3ds max the model has more polys then before, that may not seem bad at first but the extra polys don’t look good in most places. also in other places there are the same amount of polys but the model is more blocky. here are some pics to show you whats wrong

i’m not sure if the problem is with the decompiler or importer, i’m using Cannonfodder’s MDLDecompiler Version 0.5 ( Cannonfodder's Half-Life 2 Tools ) and http://www.wunderboy.org/apps/smdimport.php to import the model into 3ds max
also i’m using 3ds max 2010

It’s not always that, if that doesn’t work, try selecting all vertexes and welding them.

I guess you use the SMD exporter from the wunderboy page. when exporting tick ‘alternate normals export method’.
