I’ve uploaded the models of the props that I want on the actual game server, and uploaded the .bz2 files onto the web server as stated on

But my question is, what should my download file look like so it downloads the files.

Do I add the .bz2 after them so it’ll download or should it do it automatically because it doesn’t look like it’s working either way for me :expressionless:

My understanding is that you don’t need to add both .vtf and .vmt formats, just add one and it will automatically add all other types of that file. As far as .bz2 goes, I’m fairly sure that you should only .bz2 compress large files such as maps (over 1mb), but if you want to do it for materials, I think you need to add the compressed file to your webserver, but then add .bz2 after the file names in resource.AddFile - so that would be:

Also it is resource.AddFile, not resourceAddFile as you are using.

That’s probably why my script wasn’t working. As lazy as I am, I tried to mess around with the .bz2 before hand and I replaced all “.” with nothing on accident.

Nope, Still didn’t work. It didn’t even start the download. I kinda speed lua’d this morning trying to get it all setup, so I didn’t remove the only vtfs.

Well what exactly is the actual compressed file name of the them? My theory that it should be .vtf.bz2 might be wrong. All you need to do is find exactly what the compressed file is called of each one (on your webserver), and just write that in there. Honestly though, I think .bz2 compressing materials might be a bit unnecessary, the files should download very speedily without being compressed, but it’s your decision.

Originally I was just compressing the 4mb ones, because those were taking awhile for some reason.

Or do I have to make the directory of the web match the game server?

Hmm well it seems that you are doing everything right (as far as I know), but I’m sure you need to use the content folder, if you’re not.
I’ve tried finding an answer on the web for you but I’m stumped to tell you the truth. My suggestion would be to just use the non compressed forms of the files until someone with an answer comes along, which could take a while. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

I have the same issue with Bz2, might want to share how did you resolve it?

Well, the files I uploaded to the server consisted of materials and models. Those are located in my gamemodes content folder e.g ( garrysmod/gamemodes/yourgamemode/content/materials, the reason it’s like that is because it’s integrated with the script I have and they spawn as entities. If you have an addon you can probably leave it in the addons folder. Then I took out the biggest files e.g (4mb) and bzipped them. Then you login to your web server and just go to the main garrysmod folder ( or make one ) and make a models or materials folder and put your content in there including the bzips. ( The bzips should only be in the webserver )

Also, I don’t think it’ll work if you make all the materials/models into bzips, I couldn’t get it working when I did that.

After all that is done just go back into your gameservers ftp and go into the lua/autorun/server folder.

Create any file .lua because it will auto download, mine is called ‘download.lua’ and it looks like this.

But really, that’s about it. I also cleaned my gmod file out and updated the cache files after that, I joined the server and they downloaded and it worked. It’s kinda hard to explain but I hope you get the gist of it.
