Garry's Mod freezes at the loading screen...

… And make the entire PC freeze as well, if I don’t use the task manager.

System hardware specs

  • Processor: Pentium® Dual-Code CU T4200 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
  • RAM: 3070MB RAM
  • Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470
  • Operating System: Windows Vista Home Basic (6.0, build 6001)

It seems that Steam somehow uses 125k memory and hl2 (Garry’s Mod, of course) only 57k, shouldn’t it be Garry’s Mod the program to get more memory usage?

This only occurs when I try to play Garry’s Mod.
After I closed it’s process with task manager, I tried TF2, worked perfectly.

Any ideas?

Well…
I noticed some of the memory allocated to hl2 gets used by steam, and it is a steam game, so it does make a bit of sense.

I left my PC load Garry’s Mod for 10 minutes
The memory usage was the same, 125k on Steam, 57k on Garry’s Mod.
Normally, Steam gets around 100k then back to 20-50k memory usage, after I load Team Fortress 2.
It doesn’t make sense to me.

Are you from Spain?

Because continental European countries use a point instead of a comma to separate thousands, don’t they?

Which would mean Steam is using 129,000K and Gmod 57,000K

I think, anyway. Otherwise I’ve never seen a task manager that shows memory used to 3 decimal places.

I live in Portugal, therefore I’m portuguese.
Also, can we get back to the issue? I would really want to play Garry’s Mod for a while.

Ok, tell us more about why you can’t play Garry’s Mod.
Errors? Crashing?

There is no way stock GMod would totally halt-up a system. Your spec’s seem fine, so that doesn’t seem to be the issue. Do you have any addons in place?

Maybe whatever you drew a red line over was bittorrent downloading a massive porn file. Maybe you should close that while you play.
