Garry's Mod Hl2.exe error.

Alright, so my brother just got a desktop running that my uncle gave him.
He really likes Garry’s mod and always is begging me to let him use my laptop to play it.
So when he got this desktop,we were pretty sure ge could run Gmod. But however, we were wrong.
Whenever he tries to get into a game, it gives him this error:

Garry’s Mod: hl2.exe-application error
The instruction at 0x18c9470 referenced memory at 0x0fe9effc.
The memory could not be “read”.

I’m not too sure why this is happening, but it may be because of his computer’s specs. Here they are-

OS- Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
BIOS- Pheonix- AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor- Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz
Memory- 992MB RAM (This one’s strange, as he has 2 512’s as i know of)
DirectX Version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Video Card- S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR
Chip Type- s3 ProSavageDDR
Approx. Total memory- 32.0MB (This is what I think is the problem)

That’s basically it, thanks to everyone who can help me. I will respond to questions on this thread as they are asked.

Those specs are pretty low, but they should run Gmod at least on low settings.

Chances are your memory is the issue. I’d definitely recommend an upgrade.

The videocard for sure, i would go pick up a half way decent agp video card.

The reason the ram says 992Mb because 32Mb is being allocated to video memory.

I have played Gmod on old pentium 4’s. I’m actually running a server off a p4(except its has 4Gb of memory and a performance network card :s) So it has potential.

if your looking for a cheap grapics card that will run Gmod on medium:
