Gmad Extractor won't open?

So, whenever I try to open my Gmad Extractor it gives me this error: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item.

This is probably a stupid question but whatever.

This is the gmad.exe from your GarrysMod/bin folder, correct? Also are you using a batch file to run this?

If it’s on a different storage device than your operating system, make sure you plugged it in to the same spot you did when you installed the extractor/made the shortcut.

I don’t use a batc file to run this.

Are you running it from the command line?

Use this
Simple to use and has a very nice interface

That’s what won’t open…

Make sure you have the latest .NET Framework

I do.

Is it on your C:\ drive?

Try running it via the command line. Go to the bin directory and SHIFT-Right Click and select “Open command window here”. Then type “gmad extract -file PATH_TO_FILE”. E.g.

gmad extract -file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons\myaddon.gma"

You can also use relative paths, where .. signifies the parent directory.

gmad extract -file ..\garrysmod\addons\myaddon.gma

Did not work.

“Did not work” is not helpful. If you wish to get help, post what exactly you did, and what happened.

I assume you get a message along the lines of “Permission denied” in your command prompt? If so, the binary is most likely corrupt (or there’s a bigger problem here).

If you want to extract GMA files, the easiest way to do it is to stick the exe in a folder, then shift-right-click a gma, OPEN WITH > Choose Default Program… Browse to the exe and click ok.

Now, any time you double-click a GMA, it’ll be extracted into a folder in the directory you’re currently viewing.

This is the tool I use:

Or you can do the same for gmad.exe.
