Gmod isnt starting up

Ive recently been given a copy of Gmod as a gift. After installing, I started gmod. I knew that I had to unblock it from my firewall, so I did when the request popped up
After that I attempted to play Gmod again, it now said “hl2.exe is not responding”
I then thought “I must have to restart my computer, like I always do when I install a game”
After installing, I tried again to play gmod. The same “hl2.exe is not responding” came up
I do have a source game, Counter Strike: Source, and it runs allright, so Im not sure if this is much different
Im using a laptop, if that makes any difference

So, here’s exactly what happens:
I double-click on “Garry’s Mod”
The Loading screen comes up
2 seconds later,
“hl2.exe is not responding”

Also, each time this comes up, I click on “Find a solution to the problem”
Thanks in advance

I hope that’s enough

Your PC’s hardware is simply too weak to run it.

However, you could try running it in Direct X 8 mode, this is how you do that:

  1. Open up steam and go to the ‘my games’ tab and right click on Garry’s Mod.

  2. Select ‘properties’ and then select ‘launch options’.

  3. Copy and paste this command without the ( " ) : " -dxlevel 81 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 "

  4. Start Garry’s Mod and it may work.

Thank you. Ill try this now
It sort of works. Now the Loading bars appear, but afterwards, the screen turns and stays black

Just saw you’ve got a notebook. I’m sorry, but you won’t be able to play it until you’ve got yourself a better PC.

Damn it. Thanks anyway
