Half-Life SMD to Source SMD

Hello I have to ask a question,

I have Half-Life (CS 1.6) SMD files and I want to compile them into a .mdl

I used Milkshape 3d to get the .smd files out of the gsg5.mdl but when i compile it into source it doesnt animate?

Can someone tell me how I can do it

I had a idea that i would import them into 3ds max and then export as source smd ? will this work
