Help with exporting animation from Maya.

Hello, I’m having some problems with exporting animation smds from Maya for my models.
Using the provided tools from valve, I am able to export the models fine, and get them into GMod with no problems.
But when it comes to animation, I find myself getting stuck.

I am able to export the sequences, and the exporter creates the smds such as they should be. As far as I can see this should be all I need to do, other than editing the .qc file. The compiling works fine too. But it’s just not right.

Here’s what’s happening.

I cannot export the reference smd so that it includes the skeleton. I’m only able to export either a 1kb smd, or export a .obj that I can convert into .smd with another program, but that doesn’t preserve the rig.

The idle smd is 1kb.
The animation smds’ are around 37kb each
(Is this normal? The exported create the bone rig correctly itself and it animates correctly, but should they just have the skeleton in the smd?)

And can someone point me in the right direction to a guide to setting up rigs that will translate into source correctly?
