Help with making hands and VMs to use them?

Can someone provide some clear instructions on how to create playermodel hands and how to make a viewmodel that uses the playermodel’s hands? Thanks.

I’ve been trying to figure out the same thing for a good amount of time now. I’ve got my hands all set up & rigged in Maya, however when it comes to generating the .qc files and all I’m completely lost.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok i don’t know where to start so i skip the moddeling and rigging part.

  1. To use your own hands-model for your custom character use the 3D-program file from your model. (here my robot in XSI Mod Tool)
  2. Delete all part exept the arms, start at the upperarm to fingertips.

That must be: Your model is completely rigged and textured.

After that export your hands as smd file. (reference)

Thats all to get your view-hands-model for your character.

Now to the view-model of a weapon that is “gmod hand compatible”.

  1. Create your weapon and rig and animate it with some hands in your 3D-programm. (smg with my robot hands in XSI Mod Tool)
  2. Now if everything is done, delete only the hands.

After that export your model as smd file. (reference)

You noticed that i use attachments right? I dont know if i only have to do this but let me try to explain it:

  1. If i use all these attachments the gmod hands will appear correct on my view-model.
  2. That will happen if i use no attachments or even only for the upper arm.
