Help with skins for qc

Hello, this probably doesn’t deserve it’s own thread, but there is no megathread.

Anyways what I have is a tree model. It has 2 materials, MaterialA.vmt and MaterialB.vmt

I wanna have a skin that replaces A and B with MaterialC.vmt and MaterialD.vmt

so
Skin1: MaterialA.vmt and MaterialB.vmt
Skin2: MaterialC.vmt and MaterialD.vmt

How would I go about editing the qc file for that? (valve wiki confuses me)

This is how I would typically format it.

$texturegroup “Name”
{
{
“MaterialA.vmt”
“MaterialB.vmt”
}
{
“MaterialC.vmt”
“MaterialD.cmt”
}
}

Can “Name” be anything or does it have to be a texture name?

To make it easier to understand, I’d personally use

model with 3 materials called materialA materialB and materialC out of which you only wish to replace material A and B



$texturegroup "Name"
{
   {
"MaterialA.vmt"
"MaterialB.vmt"
   }
   {
"MaterialA_replace.vmt"
"MaterialB_replace.vmt"
   }
}

Just that a lot of people tend to have four materials and actually put each into a group.

Wraith’s example is a lot better, haha.
And “Name” can be anything you like.
