How do I add custom textures to Hammer?

So, I want to add some custom textures into Hammer, I won’t be compiling with them, they’re just for reference.

So, what do I need to do to add custom textures?

Do you have the textures in .VTF format?

if so, make a .vmt with the exact same name as the .vtf, type in the .vmt :

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
	$basetexture ...\...
	$surfaceprop
}

After $basetexture you fill in the name of the folder where the texture is, and behind the slash, the name of the texture without an extension.

You fill in what kind of matrial the texture is at $surfaceprop. Link on specific types of surfaceprop here http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Surfaceprop

After this, you go to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\username\sourcesdk_content\ep2\matrials
/ep2/ is an example, you can change this to anything from that folder
And make a folder there, make sure the name of the folder is the same as what you filled in behind $basetexture, before the slash.

then place the .vmt and .vtf in that folder and reload hammer.

I hope this helped.

Thank you.

one other question.

How do I get trigger_look to work right?

EDIT: nvm, I figured it out. I just had to fool around a little bit for it to work right. :smiley:

Any help?
