How do you turn off the toolgun beam/sound?

Hi everyone.

I’ve been trying to make some videos using the “N.P.C. Talk” tool, which lets you choose a scene (speech and movement) for a spawned N.P.C. to act out.

The problem I have been having is that the N.P.C.'s start speaking immediately after shooting them with the “N.P.C. Talk” tool, so if I try to record the scene, i will hear tool-gun sound, and will see the beam from the tool-gun, as the character speaks.

This obviously makes for horrible footage, so I am asking anyone out there if they know a way to disable the sound/beam for the tool-gun. And hey, I’ll even put you in the credits of all the videos I am now able to make because of your help.

Another small question that might help me: Does anyone know how to delay the start of the speech for the speech tool? That would also completely solve the problem I am having, seeing as the sound would not be audible when the speech starts.

Here’s a little video to help with understanding whats going on here:

Well, thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this little problem for me.
The help is greatly appreciated!

I think I have a solution, for I as well am trying to make a Machinima at the moment, and alas, also came across this problem.

Download this file:

It will let you:-

Hide Weapons

Hide HUD

Hide Death Notices

Hide Chat

Hide All

Really useful for me, hope this helps!

And as for the sound, if you are using a proper video editing program, it should be easy to cut out the sound!

Best of luck mate.

Thanks for that movie help addon! It’s a really nice and useful add-on for making videos! So the tool-gun being visible is no longer a problem.

BUT… alas… I am using windows movie maker, because I cannot find a torrent for a decent editing program, so the issue with the sound still remains. What a frustrating issue! They should have integrated this option into the game functions…

These commands may help you.

=Type in “r_drawviewmodel 0” to hide your weapon

=Type in “cl_drawhud 0” to hide the HUD. This includes the radar in CS:S. You can also type in “HideHud” and “ShowHud” for the same effect.

=Type in “hud_saytext_time 0” to make all chat messages disappear, even if people continue to type out new ones.

=Type in “hud_deathnotice_time 0” to make the icons that tell people that one player killed another in the top right corner that you see. This is helpful for shootouts.

=Demo files that are longer than five minutes take a long time to process, open, and are generally annoying, try splitting it up. For example:
record part1a
record part1b
record part1c

=If you copy and paste these commands, then “o” will take your hud, deathnotice, and text away, and “p” will set it back to normal.
