How to achieve "metroid" door animation?

I’m new to animating, still learning the basics. I’m not sure if there’s a word or terminology for this kind of animation. If someone could help point me in the right direction, I’d greatly appreciate it! :slight_smile:

I’m going to guess you’re going with the Alien Vent shutter type deal. Which might be accurate in that regard.

Luckily, after making multiple Bank Vaults for RP maps, I’ve done this before

The orange circles are the pivot points of the individual blades, the animation just rotates them 55 degrees. (Depending on the size of the door)
If you make the blades large enough, the “star” becomes much finer, and you can even make it so they overlap which gives the illusion that it’s a solid circle that expands to open, since that removes the gap between the blades

The more blades, the better it looks!

ah I see, that’s perfect! I was even shooting for 8 leaves/blades. Just did some google searches for iris mechanisms and got a lot of cool results; I like the look of fat blades better but I think I’d have to get less blades on it then i.e.
