How to edit a map ?

Hi every one

First, i’m really sorry for my english, i’m french ^^’.

I have a question, i want to create a DARK RP server, with the map rockford, but i want to edit them to add original content.

The creator of the map, allow modifications (but not remove other, witch is totaly normal) and give her vmf file (+textures) but i don’t understand how to edit in Hammer. I never create a map so i’ve to learn how to use hammer, but i can’t find a tutorial for a map editing.

When i open the map in Hammer, i don’t see any textures (otherwise default), where i have to move map content file to view them in hammer and compile it ? Because with that, i’ve got errors.

So i put all the map ressource in that folder, but i didn’t work too … What can i do, i really need your help ^^.

Ok, thank you, i can see now all textures, but i’ve a new problem :

Hammer is not compiling, i put the map file in garry’s mod map folder and hammer map vmf location. It took ± 10 minute to compile, and… nothing change in the map.

So i change the output directory, and now :

I don’t understand why he won’t give me the bsp file ?. In Hamer Wiki, bsp is automaticly created o_o

Still no change in game, i deleted somes props (bank distributor, as you can see in screenshot, still there), and they are back in game with a news bugs : a lot of other props are getting white :

with the map built run buildcubemaps, the errors you get with the models is down to them not being in your gmod models folder

Sorry, but i don’t understand, i’ve to put -buildcubemaps in the map compiler ?

And i’have to fix missing models no?

no once the map is compiled and running in the game bring up the console and type in te console buildcubemaps that sould make ligting and reflections look normal , yeah the vmf your building its using custom models by the looks of it and you need to ave them in your garrysmod game so they get placed in the map when its compiling

if you download the map from the workshop its in a gma file and all the textures and models are in the gma file but hammer can’t load those files for you to add them

there is a GMA extractor where you can extract and then place te models and textures in to garrymod

I clicked to advanced and put -notjunc (before i use the normal method)

The map has been compiler but… Size of the map before : 174mo, after compilation : 24 mo? WTF?

So tested in game, and first, light were pink, a friends say me to type :
mat_specular 0 in console.

It’s worked but they have some missing textures, i’ve to fix it but, the map size in mo is strange, and all players in my server will have to type

I don’t understand why hammer don’t create any bsp file and just copy past the map if i put in my vmf folder to garry’s mod map folder, what does the compilation do ?

I saw a lot of tutorial of building map in Youtube and none of them said to have a map BSP file, hammer have to make it.

Too many t-junctions to fix up! is caused when to many func_detail touch world brushes go to Map Entity report select all func_detail change the grid size to 1 and move the selcted func_detail 1 unit away from the world brushes, save, then compile you shouldn’t get Too many t-junctions to fix up! then, your also still missing a few textures for the map

I search missed textures but i don’t understand somes errors, like :

its not the texture thats missing its the unknown detail object type militia_darkleaves_grass, in garrysmod folder teres a file called detail.vbsp thats were info of the detail object type militia_darkleaves_grass should be but its not, never edited the detail.vbsp i wouldn’t know how to place it there :confused:

it’s a content of Counter Strike source

I installed it, config hammer and compile but…

NO CHANGE again…

The map size is only 24 mo, they are several pink texture bugs and reflexions, normally the map size should be 170mo.

A friends said me i’ve to buy and install Hall Life episode 1 and 2, it’s true ?
