How to Update a GMod Server

Hi, I just recently made a GMod server, and the latest problem I encountered is that every time I start the server, it says that the server is out of date, please update and restart, and even I can’t connect to it locally as it says the server is running an older version of GMod. I used SteamCMD to install the server, and I tried app_update 4020 in SteamCMD, and validated it, yet the server still says it’s out of date. How do I update it? Also, is there a way to make it auto-update in the future? Thanks!

steamcmd.exe +login anonymous +force_install_dir C:\STEAMCMD\TTT\ +app_update 4020 validate +quit

This is how I updated my server.

Where do I put that?

Command prompt.

Change the bit after +force_install_dir to the directory to your GMod server.

Could I put that as a .bat file?

Also, would doing this delete all my addons like point shop and ULX?

.bat files work perfectly too.

It shouldn’t delete addons but it’s always best to backup in case.

Alright thanks!

Assuming you’re using ubuntu/linux like me:

  1. cd Steam
  2. ./steamcmd.sh
  3. login anonymous
  4. force_install_dir /user/gmodds/
  5. app_update 4020 verify
  6. quit

This should update properly.
