Illumposition Help

When compiling a model, how do I find or make the “$illumposition”?
I’m using 3ds max 2010.

add $illumposition X Y Z as a command in the .QC

like this

$illumposition 0.654 0.000 36.127

How do I find the XYZ for my model?

i’ve never had to deal with this myself really, go with wild guessing mixed with trial and error

There has to be a better way to do this than to guess randomly.

Just find the XYZ in 3DS max and use that value in $illumposition

I’m curious how the illumposition actually affects the model. Does it alter the way light hits it or something?

It’s the lightning center. A good way to test Illumposition is with just a box.

It more or less indicates from where light is going to affect a model. Often you don’t need to care about it at all unless the illumposition will be outside of the model. If that’s the case, the model will get weirdly lit.
