I'm a beginner

Well, not really, because a beginner actually started to do something, but, oh well.

I’m a pretty experienced source engine mapper ( around 1400 hours ), and I thought it would be a good idea to learn modelling.

What is a good program to use, and a good tutorial website?


( I know that this isn’t a support forum, but you guys are usually awesome )

3DS Max is a good program to use, usually it costs a lot but it’s free if you say you’re a student (wink wink). tutorials depend on what it is you’re wanting to model, as in, hacking a model out of preexisting things or making models from scratch.

for making them from stratch there’s usually tutorials on the program’s website. for hacking you’ll have to ask another member since there aren’t any tutorials that I know of, but they should be able to give you the basics.

Well i complety recomend 3dsmax, you canmake wonderfull stuff and very profesional (well you need to learn) but i think it is like $2000 so you know as Cone say you needto be a student for get it free, but the program i use it´s blender it´s an open source program, it´s free and it can make very profesional stuff like 3dsmax for download blender for free: http://www.blender.org/ for tutorials: http://wiki.blender.org/ (also you can search un google or youtube they both are yuor frieds) and here is a movie wich was made in blender: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRsGyueVLvQ

So what’s the difference between the capabilities of maya and 3ds max?
I think Autodesk owns them both and you can get both free with the whole student thingy.
