Jak and Daxter - Ripped Models

Hey everyone,

I am currently in the process of ripping the models from all the Jak and Daxter games, as I have found it is possible thanks to new ways of being able to get the models from the PS2 games.


I am in current need of help with 3DS MAX, as I am a noob to it and do not have enough experience to be able to UV Unwrap the model and other ‘jargon’ such as flipping normals and stuff. Given that, I have uploaded and linked the files of Jak II’s Player model as I think Jak looks the best in this game. I have supplied the model with textures included! So basically, I need someone to volunteer to help rectify the model. Any help is much appreciated :smiley:

What I have done is deleted the duplicated meshes as far as what has been discussed in the tutorial.

Other optional features would be if you could bake all the textures into one to make it easier to port the model into games such as GTA IV etc.

If there are any missing textures, let me know and I will try to re-rip them. Some textures may be the wrong color, I have fixed it on all textures but I could be wrong. :)

  I will eventually get all the models, Including Torn, Daxter, Tess etc, depending on the outcome of this model. I do hope to be able to release a Jak and Daxter Ragdoll Pack for Garry's Mod in the future :D

I gave up on 3d ripping from ps2 games it’s just too painful to deal with UVs and broken normals/verticies


And that Zbuffer being all wacky as hell it’s better if you can get the actual game files from the disk and rip it that way.

Yeah, I have found an algorithm of which needs to be translated to the specific code of the files to be able to get them importable into 3D software such as 3DS MAX. http://ps23dformat.wikispaces.com/Jak+3.

I still think there is hope for the 3D ripping however, and so shall not let it die just yet, I am just waiting for someone who knows how to tackle the wacky Zbuffer help me out. I do know that it is possible as someone has converted Jak from Jak 3 into a PlayStation AllStars Battle Royale mod for the Wii’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In fact, I actually did rig it into San Andreas, but it didn’t work out too well.

I have looked more into fixing the normals on the models and I now sorta understand how to do it, (I have only done half of his face yet) as well as the UV Unwrapping etc, it does take a lot of time, and like previously mentioned, I DO know it is possible and it is definitely achievable throughout perseverance!

Here’s the progress on my ripped Jak. It was ripped by using PCSX2 0.9.8 as it has on option to export as .OBJ and it does a great job at capturing the model. Looks better than the previously posted Ratchet & Clank model rip, especially the smoothness of the model. NOTE: Ringed in red are corrected normals!

I am definitely still interested and would absolutely love it if you could do the Jak II Jak model. I kinda gave up a while back…

Holy hell, I just saw some of the models you have there, and I gotta say I’m impressed. I haven’t seen anyone ever rip from the PS3 Ratchet & Clank games and seeing your rips from A Crack in Time and Into the Nexus makes me wish I could rig!

Here’s the best I can do:

He is quite glitchy and the UV’s aren’t precise due to hectic complications but I guess I am new to this.

Same goes for this:

I want to be able to port this to GTA IV but lack the knowledge at the moment.
I will be using the Star Wars speeder script to get this closer to how it is in-game.

It would be great if anyone was willing to fix up my models or re-try my attempts.

Also, before I started model ripping, I managed to get hold of the Daxter model from the PSP version of The Lost Frontier,
(found on The Models Resource) and I noticed that it was just a recycled in-game model from the PS2 trilogy, so I re-textured him
with the PS2 textures to make him more ‘HD’.

I then got this idea of attaching Daxter to the upper clothes model and it looks great. I also found a custom (but well made) Krimson Guard model and ported
him as a Policeman but I can’t rig IV peds too well as they glitch up and lose their feet.

and Finally, I have recreated that excitement and rush of when the Krimson Guards are chasing you, as I have made a mod (using the Ambiance mod’s script) of which
the Haven City Pursuit music is played when the police are after you. It is incomplete however, without more Jak models in-game.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I will upload the files so you can play around with them and fix them where needed.


bump. I know that o0DemonBoy0o has posted Otsel Tess on his Deviant Art page. I’m hoping that he will eventually do Jak II Jak, Krew and a few others. I am finding it hard at the moment to fix glitches on my model of which I cannot T-Post and find it a lot of trouble for something that doesn’t look right.

I’m taking a small break right now, but the next couple of models i’ll be working on are going to be Daxter, Tess, and Jak II Jak.

Jak II is giving me some problems though. His model is much harder to get in a t-pose.
