Kinect V2 - What causes it to not work?

So I have a Kinect V2, and after seeing a few of my friends use their Kinect (x360s?), I thought it would be pretty cool to try it myself. I installed all the proper runtimes and SDK’s, but to no avail, it did not work. I even checked in the console with the v1.6 AND v2.0 Kinect SDK’s, both were said to be recognized by the console, but there was no little Kinect icon near the others.

What could be causing this?

Why isn’t Kinect V2 fully supported yet?

Because nobody at facepunch has it nor is interested in supporting it, it’s that simple.

It was mainly Garry that added the first sdk and after that he went off to work full time on Rust, while _Kilburn, Robotboy and Willox are left to maintain the game.

My guess (and that’s all it is, a guess) is that the Kinect V2 SDK is completely different from the original, and in order to take advantage of it, the kinect code in gmod would have to be entirely rewritten. Considering how the kinect integration was just something garry made on a whim in the first place, I don’t see any chance for Kinect V2 support.
