Large Servers


As the Garry’s Mod server doesn’t take advantage of multiple cores, I was wondering how people could get large servers (>64 players) working at all? I’ve seen CPU usage go up to 70% with a 30 slot server on a 3.5GHz processor while the players weren’t doing anything unusual. What changes to the settings need making to allow the server to cope with a large number of players?


Reducing the tickrate is a common way of reducing server load, it just means hit detection will be worse.
