Making specific bone only animations in blender (.SMD)

So I can make full animations that control every bone in the body just fine but there are certain ACT animations that only control for example the hand and arm so that the player can wave with his hand while his legs are either standing still or moving depending on if the player is pushing a direction key or not. It seems animations I make have to specify the angles of every single bone in the body for the duration of the animation so that if the player decided to move while the animation was playing they would just slide along the ground without performing a running animation. So my question is how do you create an ACT that only animates certain bones and doesn’t take control of the rest of the body as well, is it possible? I only need pointing in the right direction as I already know how to create regular animations and play them, thanks.

Well… Think I found it… It’s the $weightlist command in the QC file… Not that anyone else seems to care here…
