Map Making Data

Outerra is a game engine which utilizes maps data to form real time lands, therefore the map is a 1:1 scale of Earth (Jesus!).

The images below are of Middle Earth from LOTR, plugged into the engine on a 1:1 scale, found here: http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=2344.0

However I noticed the emphasis on importing models, etc from the outerra site, so maybe this has potential for Rust? (Not the actual map itself, but the system)?

It’s optimized as well, as Outerra states.

What software did you use to make these?
I love the landscaping

The other bit didn’t post for some odd reason…

It’s a google maps type of engine here: http://www.outerra.com/demo.html

Would be too big for most regular servers. But imagine two or three official servers with a 5000 player cap.

It’s interesting, with the Outerra Anteworld engine, the map is a 1:1 scale of Earth you can explore, add vehicles, planes (Of which work) terrain deformation (Holes in ground from explosions).

Is something like this possible for Rust?

I believe it would be, it would just be a hassle to port rust to another engine, it would entire another alpha/beta state.

IMO, at some point, we’re gonna have to get away of the engine we’re on… It’s got it’s limitations and if outerra’s engine is as great as it looks like, badass stuff could be done!

LOOKING FORWARRD!

Yeah it looks pretty great, was just putting this out there as some options to see what could be done!

This definitely looks amazing. It would be awesome to see implemented, but unlikely. Great find though.
