I’m confused on what is causing the problem.

Well, right now it’s opening “materials/st/hats/” ($cdmaterials), then appending another “st/hats/” (smd), so it ends up trying to look in “materials/st/hats/st/hats/”.

Change all those to just ‘crown’. You don’t need the extension.

Also, I recommend you use this QC instead:

$definevariable modelFile crown.dmx.smd

$modelname "st\hats\crown.mdl"

$model Body $modelFile$

$cdmaterials "st/hats/"

$surfaceprop metal

$sequence ref $modelFile$ FPS 30

Thanks I got it to work.
