A gamemode of deception and murder, based off Murder in the Dark and a bit similar to Cluedo.
One person is a murderer with a knife, who is trying to secretly kill off the other players.
The other players must use their wits to find out who it is and kill them first. Unfortunately they only have the one gun between them.

How is this different than TTT?
Unlike TTT, there is only ever 1 murderer and people arn’t armed to the teeth with guns.

What happens if a bystander kills another bystander?
They drop the gun and can’t pick it up again for 20 seconds.

What is loot?
Loot are collectable objects around the map, if a bystander collects 5 of them, he is given a gun.

How do I say things?
Hold down Q and click on what you want to say

How can I see footsteps?
The murderer can see the footsteps of all the players, they disappear after 30 seconds.

I’m lagging! Please help me!
Try turning off knife halos with “mu_halo_knife 0”
If that doesn’t work try turning off halos altogether with “mu_halo_render 0”
If that doesn’t work try turning decreasing mu_footstep_maxlifetime, the default is 30, measured in seconds.

Quite a fun gamemode!

  • How is this different than TTT?
  • Are the murderers a team or can they murder each other?
  • What happens if a bystander kills another bystander?

Just some constructive comments; looks like you put quite a bit of effort into it.

There is only 1 murderer, most people don’t have any weapons at all.

EDIT: I love the HUD though, very clean design with very eye friendly colors.

Is this similar to the one Pulsar Effect had running years ago? ( Before TTT even existed, gee that was a long time ago. q.q )

The murderer seems to get lag. People say it’s the footsteps that’s making the murderer lag and I also believe that it is the footsteps so now my question is, is it possible to toggle the footsteps for the murderer on or off and also is there a way to make it show the user’s name when they speak instead of just showing bystander.

This happened to me as well. Framerate started chugging the moment I spawned as a murderer and folks started walking around. The footsteps are an awesome way to keep track of and find folks, but it could use some optimization.

Also, there are a few folks who are color-blind, and multiple times where folks spawn with similar colors. With the amount of folks that have similar/troll names, would it be possible to have randomly given names? Could use the NATO alphabet for this.

Other than the occasional tool who shoots bystanders for laughs, and bad hitboxes (which every gamemode suffers from), I’m having a lot of fun with this.

There’s too much random killing and the rounds take way too long.

Maybe think about adding a penalty if you kill an innocent and add a round timer.
