Not sure how to improve my mapping skills.

I’ve been mapping for about 4-5 years now, and I’ve pretty much hit a dead end. I’m not sure how to improve my mapping abilities. I’ve already learned almost every entity, and what it does. I’ve polished myself on psychological horror and lighting. and am not sure what else to learn… Any ideas on what concepts i can work on?

Optimizing maybe, and show some screenshots

Do some advanced logic with entities.

Well, try to recreat real environments? Lots of them (and very different). Create a working map for CSGO/TF2 or maybe an entire standalone HL2 mod (not big, but a modification, not a single map)?

Make more maps.

Sounds like you’ve maxed out if you don’t know what else to do.

You haven’t mastered environment design in five years. There are artists out who have been in the industry for decades, and they still look to improve. Simply keep mapping with new challenges in mind, and you’ll continue to grow! I would also suggest joining a mapping team, as you’ll learn new workflows from others and be pushed to create quality work. I’ve always found group projects to be a fulfilling learning experience.

Alright thanks for the input, guys!
