Odd disconnection errors with dedicated server (Player issued command but is now vanished)

OK, here’s the deal. My friend runs a dedicated server from his house (on the same network as he runs the client on). It’s a Xeon machine running Windows Server 2003 R2, with 512MB RAM, fully patched and up to date.

Other people can connect and play around on it just fine, but whenever he attempts to connect to the server for the first time, it kicks everyone else out (see below on this), then lets nobody connect for about three minutes, giving either the “Disconnect by user” or “Connection failed after 4 attempts” (although this could be due to clicking “Cancel”, I don’t know.

After the server snaps out of it and lets people reconnect, everything works fine until the server is restarted and the owner attempts to connect again.

Note about the “kick”, it’s not a standard kick, it’s like the server stops responding. You’re frozen in place and can’t spawn anything, but the “Connection error” never appears in the top rgh

After that, both the server owner and everyone else will fail to connect for another three minutes or so, as if the server were offline. Eventually, it’ll start letting people in, at which point everything works fine for everyone.

Most of the time, when the owner connects for the first time, the server console gives an error similar to this: “Warning: Player issued command but is now vanished (Command was “p 67”)”. The last time, though, that didn’t appear and instead we got a bunch of lines like this: “[User1_IP]:27005:reliable state invalid (5).”

I am having an Issue similar to this. I am running a dedicated server from the same network that I play on, which means that I am connecting with Lan. Everyone else that joins the server can play on it fine, but whenever I connect, after about a minute, I lose connection to the server. I get the server problem 40 second countdown in the top right of my screen.

This also happens to everyone else on my server, and it seems that my connection to the internet is even affected. On the computer that I use to play, on the server, and on my wireless laptop, for about one to two minutes they are all unable to connect to the internet.

I have yet to find any sort of fix to the problem, because it is just so random. Sometimes, the server will stay connected fine, sometimes, after an hour or so it randomly has this problem, and, most of the time, it has this problem within a minute or two of connecting.

At first, I did not have this problem, for the first few times I used the server, this did not happen, and it seems to be happening more often.

I still need to try to see if an addon or map could be the problem, or whether this happens to all hosted source games. More on this as I test.

EDIT: This also happens without any addons installed. The server will also experience random lag spurts, where you will be teleported back to where you were a second before, and the console in dev mode says client command out of sync <Delta #> this number was a 9, 11, and 12, and this error was given out either 5 or 6 times during one lag spurt.
