Portal lighting

Maybe someone can help me out here.

I can’t for the f’in life of me get the lighting in my portal test map to balance out like it is in official valve maps.

For example, my with an env_cubemap in my map the floor is absolute black and my ceiling is lit on the edges only. there is a block that is 2x2 ceiling tiles in the center and it is also black.

I’m not sure what is wrong. I think I am building cubemaps, the game does not say in the console text that they are not built.
