Rust sits on Gray facepunch logo on Windows 7?!

As said above, I’m running windows 7. I’ve read all the issues with the mac version but didn’t see any (game stopping) problems with windows so I decided to buy it. The download finished, I ran the mode in 1366x768 not windowed and it just sits there on the gray facepunch logo with X’s for eyes.

I’ve restarted steam and tried varients of the resolution/windowed options to no avail.

Please help, I’m dying to play!!

Post your specs

i5 M450 @ 2.4GHZ
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

Need anything else?

Not sure how well a Radeon HD 5650 will run rust :0

Does it work well on other games?

Yeah runs everything I’ve tried on it nicely.

Dark Souls, various CoDs, World of Warcraft, StarCraft 2, Planetside 2 (iffy). Plus many others…

EDIT: Just been playing CS:GO on medium to max settings absolutely fine!

same issue since 2 weeks and cant find a way out good luck to you too

Two weeks?!?!
Hasn’t anyone got any info on this? I’m quite gutted that I’ve just bought this and I can’t play it, I don’t even get an error code or anything.

Heeeelp!! :frowning:

Post your output log file.

Does this shine any light on the problem?

Not sure but this is probably important “Missing Bundle bundles/navmesh.000.unity3d”.
Do in steam check of integrity of files or something like that. It should redownload missing/broken files.

Just ran an integrity check and it came back all files successfully validated so it can’t be that…

EDIT: Just did some research and most of the outputs I’ve seen on the forums have that line in there.

Mine looks very similar to ones that do work except mine just stops…

It’s not that, everyone gets that error in their log.

I can’t really see anything noticeable, it seems like its having trouble connecting to the actual server host to get the server lists so it just sits there timing out.

Any Antivirus running? NAT Enabled? Try putting your router in DMZ Mode.

Microsoft Security Essentials.
All other games give me a great NAT rating.
Could it be I need to allow it on my firewall manually? I’m using the default windows one.

EDIT: Just checked and it’s already on my firewall as allow.

EDIT the 2nd: Putting my router in DMZ mode to my laptop WORKED!!!

Thank you so much MudcrabWarr you are anhero!!

Now, my issue is that I don’t much like my router being in DMZ mode but my problem is obviously coming from there.

What ports does RUST use so I can forward them?

I’m not too sure what port it uses mate, I myself haven’t had to DMZ my router, just know it fixes some weird issues

Glad you’ve got it working now!

Install more ram on your laptop too if you can, your graphics card is sharing your system ram and you will notice a huge improvement with a small hardware upgrade.

That might be a good idea, I went on a 50-60 pop server and my laptop wasn’t taking it very well.

I’m now on a 0 pop server and it’s running okay, some graphical glitches but I can tell it’s on the verge of a lag fest. The game is also on the lowest settings for me.

Still, I’ve got a hut and started a fort. Loving this game so far.

Reckon a bit more physical RAM would make a big difference then?
