They make sense when a large event has happened and you need to categorise discussion for a short period.

To be fair I’d like WAYWO threads to continue existing, rather than having a tag - It’d condense all those small submissions into one place, making it easier to filter them out all at once, if you’re not interested in WAYWO.
I also liked to keep scrolling through one thread seeing all the people posting relevant stuff, with tags I’ll probably have to read 20 other unrelated posts before I can see an actual WAYWO post.
Threads also encourage discussions and bombing people with dumb ratings. It’s just much easier to keep track of things.
