Server crashes when people join due to an addon conflict.

Hey guys, I’m having a bit of a problem. In my server, I have one mod for persistent slot machines and one mod for persistent vending machines. When the server stars, both of those get spawned back into their proper positions where they were last time. One problem, however; whenever someone joins, the server crashes and burns. I know this is the case because A. It only occurs on maps that have both in them and B. It doesn’t occur when I remove one of the addons. How do I work around this issue?

Can you post code that would be causing the crash?

One or both of the mods are probably written poorly and causing some kind of infinite loop, maybe by removing all the machines and adding the ones it cares about, but then the other mod notices what it cared about was removed and try to do it’s own cleanup and triggers the first one again.

I’d say either contact the author or dig around in the code to figure out how they work and fix the conflict.

UPDATE: Apparently only one of the mods is the culprit. Here is the code from the slot machine mod.

EDIT: Again, it only crashes when someone joins a server running a map in which the machines exist.

I don’t see anything in that code that could be causing crashing – if it only happens when a player joins, look for any code relating to a PlayerInitialSpawn, PlayerSpawn, player_spawn, PlayerConnect, or Think hooks.

I couldn’t find any of those hooks. To make matters worse, the log file doesn’t show any problems.

What maps have you tested both on?

Deleting the text files that dictate where to spawn the machines fixes the problem. However, once i re-set them and the server restarts the problem comes back.

No solutions yet? I’m out of ideas. Not even the log shows any problems.

Have you tried placing the 2 different entities manually without the persistence add-on, and seeing if the same thing happens?

Yeah, no crashes whatsoever.

UPDATE: I found the real culprit. It’s TFA weaponry. Not sure why that would even cause a problem, but deleting the addons fixes the problem. Now, I need to figure out how to get them to play nice.

That’s not a dump, that’s a console log. Rubat is referring to the mdmp files created in your base garrysmod directory (next to hl2.exe or srcds.exe). If they’re not created, you’re probably hitting an infinite loop somewhere.

Read through some of it. Apparently not fixable. But dude, if I had to guess, the error is somewhere in the 5000 addons you have installed.

Edit#2: Ignore file name. Site was being disobedient.

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION is just a generic exception code and won’t really tell you the issue.
